Type 1B β Praetorian Unit (MEFP: Military Enforcement Frame, Prototype 1B)
Short version: bulky, angry, and very well-armed. Built to hold ground, shield VIPs, and make things that were a problem for Division Nine cease being problems. Director Yuehan Vos treats them like her polite, heavily-armored extortion letters.
Role & Mission Profile
Primary Role: Urban heavy support & high-risk operations β close-quarters interdiction, VIP protection, hard-target clearing, anti-armor suppression, urban chokepoint denial.
Secondary Role: Tactical escort for Sentry Units and Aegis-7 frames; serve as mobile command/support nodes in contested urban zones.
Operational Concept: Deploy in mixed columns with Sentry infantry screens and Aegis-7 pacification frames. Provide heavy suppressive fire, physical barriers (kinetic-plating), and electronic superiority at the squad/tactical-platoon level.
Armor, Survivability & Defensive Systems
Exo-Plating: Multi-layer kinetic-shielding exo-plating:
Outer layer: ceramic-infused composite (spall mitigation),
Middle: electromagnetic dispersal mesh (localized impulse absorption),
Inner: reactive polymer lattice (shock dampening).
Armor Rating (equivalent): Resistant to 7.62 AP at 50 m; able to withstand light vehicle autocannon glancing shots; heavy shocks (anti-tank) will damage but not instantly disable.
Active Defenses:
Kinetic Field Nodes: Short-range (2β4 m) localized kinetic dampening bubble (directional, front-biased). Consumes burst power; 8β12s recharge. Reduces projectile impact energy by up to 60% within coverage arc.
EMP Hardening: Hardened bus and redundant buck/boost converters. Critical control channels use optical isolation to survive moderate EMPs.
Reactive Countermeasures: Micro-smoke dispenser, flash/IR dazzler, chaff/sock dispensers for sensors.
Redundancy: Dual actuators on major joints; failover for primary flight and control processors; modular limb replacements in field.
Sensors, Targeting & Comms
Sensor Suite:
Multi-band LIDAR array (360Β° short-range mapping)
EO/IR gimbal (x1.4βx8 zoom, stabilization)
Short-wave passive RF scanner (SIGINT)
Acoustic triangulation for suppressed fire detection
Proximity micro-radar for blast/fragment detection
Targeting: Integrated ballistic/pulse-lobing fire control with lead compensation and smart-ammo guidance handshake. Prioritization supports friend/foe masks (Division Nine ROE).
Comms: Multi-channel encrypted mesh (Division Nine proprietary stack) + line-of-sight laser datalink for Aegis nodes. Anti-jam with frequency-hopping; fallback short-burst optical handshake with Sentry and Yuehan's command nodes.
Local Command Mode: Can host a hybrid human/AI forward command module β receives direct orders and relays sensor feeds to Director Vos mobile node.
AI & Human Control
Autonomy Level: Semi-autonomous with high-level tactical AI (Division Nine AegisNet sanctioned). Local AI can perform: target tracking, suppression prioritization, close-combat maneuvers, nonlethal escalation. Human-in-the-loop for lethal authorization under strict ROE.
Commander Mode: When paired with a Director node (e.g., Yuehan Vos), receives encrypted strategic directives; can act as hybrid C2 element for a small force package.
Failsafes: Multiple watchdogs; core kill-switch accessible only through layered authentication (Director Vos tokens, Sentry commanders, physical key).
Logistics, Maintenance & Field Support
Modularity: Limbs, powerpack, major sensors and weapons are plug-and-play; 30-min field swap for a trained 2-technician team.
Maintenance Cycle: Pre-sortie check: 12 items (power, plating integrity, coolant, actuators, weapon boresight). Minor service: 24 hours. Overhaul: 120 hours.
Supply Footprint: Spare powercartridges (10 per unit), shield cells (replacement packs), 3 spare servo modules, 2 spare weapon modules recommended per platoon.
Transport: Fits into Aegis logistical carriers; can be slinged under medium-lift rotorcraft.
Platform Overview
Model: Type 1B β Praetorian MEFP
Role: Urban heavy escort / hard-target suppressor
Mass: 980 kg
Height: 2.25 m (stand)
Power: 120 kW continuous; 360 kW burst
Speed: 28 km/h sprint; 4 km/h crawl
Armor: Multi-layer kinetic exo-plating + directional kinetic field (2β4 m)
Primary Armament: Plasma Carbine (30β250 m)
Secondary Armament: Pulse Grenade Launcher (10β120 m)
Sensors: LIDAR, EO/IR, RF, acoustic triangulation
Comm: Encrypted mesh + LOS laser link
Autonomy: Semi-autonomous; human-in-loop for lethal ROE
Logistics: 8β12 hr runtime; hot-swap power cartridges; 30-min limb swap (field)
Manufacturer (in-universe): Division Nine Armatures / Aegis Manufacturing Consortium (speculative)
Tactics & Employment
Column Movement: Praetorians form an inner ring around VIPs (e.g., Director Vos). Sentries form outer screen, Aegis frames provide suppression. Praetorians take apex positions at chokepoints.
Urban Breach: Move to breach point; use pulse grenades for doorway clearing, plasma carbine for neutralizing entrenched threats. Kinetic shield deployed to block immediate active fire lanes and create temporary forward cover.
Crowd Control: Use nonlethal grenade loadouts and dazzlers first; escalate only under ROE.
Counter-Ambush: Rapid sensor sweep, kinetic bubble to buy time and fall back or flank.
Integration with Sentry & Aegis-7
Data Link: Real-time feed to Sentry tactical overlays; Praetorian sensor feeds used to enhance Aegis predictive suppression models.
Role Distinction: Sentries = infantry support & screening; Aegis-7 = area suppression & heavy pacification; Praetorians = mobile heavy escort + specialized clearing.
Hybrid Command: When Yuehan embeds a Praetorian in her personal detachment, it holds a prioritized routing table for her secure communications and acts as a local relay and buffer for Aegis control signals.
